Weymouth -The school committee ratified the Weymouth Teachers Association’s acceptance of a five-year contract with a 5-2 vote following a stern town budget lesson by Mayor Susan Kay on July 1.

Local woman charged in FBI-led prostitution bust
Weymouth -As part of “Operation Cross Country,” a nationwide effort to stop the domestic trafficking of children for prostitution, eight people were arrested in Braintree and six, including a Weymouth woman, were arrested in Boston on prostitution charges.

Retirement board overturns Madden's pension amount
Weymouth -The Weymouth Retirement Board reversed a prior decision to award former Mayor David Madden a $79,000 yearly fire chief’s pension on Friday, June 27.
Board members unanimously agreed to reclassify Madden as a Group I, or an administrative employee at the request of the State Public Employee Retirement Administration Commission.
Madden will receive $49,000 per year for his eights years of service as the town’s top administrator. He previously served the Weymouth Fire Department as chief for six years before getting elected mayor in November, 1999.
